Fatal accidents in the first 10 months this year drop by 9.5%

The number of road accidents causing death in Hong Kong in the first 10 months this year was 114, a fall of 9.5% on same period last year, the Chairman of the Road Safety Council and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr Yam Tat-wing, said on December 7.

Exhibition on "China's First Spacewalk Mission"

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, and three astronauts of the Shenzhou-7 mission, Zhai Zhigang, Liu Boming and Jing Haipeng, who are visiting Hong Kong, officiated at the opening ceremony of the exhibition on "China's First Spacewalk Mission" at the Hong Kong Science Museum December 6.

Observatory organises training course on city forecasts

Eight meteorologists, from Bangladesh, Mainland China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Oman, Vietnam and Yemen, are attending a training course on city weather forecasts organised by the Hong Kong Observatory from December 1 to 5.

"Hong Kong Film: New Action" project launched

The Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC) launched December 3 a large-scale project “Hong Kong Film: New Action” to promote the long-term development of Hong Kong's film industry. The project aims to help local films develop Mainland and Southeast Asian markets and introduce the new generation of Hong Kong directors to these markets.

Passengers in Oil at MTR Central Station

Riding on the MTR is more than just a daily routine for some passengers. For local artist Ms Jackie Gan Pui-ling, it is a source of inspiration. The public will be able to see how their MTR ride is portrayed through Ms Gan’s oil paintings when her latest exhibition entitled“Where are we going to?” opens 1 December 2008 at “arttube” in MTR Central Station. The exhibition will be held until 31 January 2009.

Automatic weather station for Wan Chai district opened

The automatic weather station for the Wan Chai District was officially opened December 1.  Located at the home bend at Happy Valley Racecourse, the weather station is equipped with instruments for measuring temperature and rainfall.  The public can now access the latest weather information in the Wan Chai District by a variety of means, including the Hong Kong Observatory's website and dial-a-weather service.

LLB members visit licensed liquor premises

Members of the Liquor Licensing Board, led by Board Chairman Mr Felix Fong, visited a number of premises with liquor licences in Tsim Sha Tsui, Central and Wan Chai districts early morning (November 30). The purpose was to better understand the operation of different types of premises with liquor licences and enforcement actions by the Police.

Programme for visit of Shenzhou-7 delegation

The delegation of the Shenzhou-7 manned space mission will arrive in Hong Kong on December 5 for a four-day visit at the invitation of the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang.

Led by Mr Zhang Jianqi, the 40-strong delegation includes astronauts Zhai Zhigang, Liu Boming and Jing Haipeng. Other members include commanders or designers of the mission’s major engineering systems.
