Cathay Pacific Airways celebrated the inauguration of its thrice-weekly service to Moscow on 1 September with a gala celebration in the city attended by 300 Hong Kong and Russia dignitaries, including government officials, aviation officials and business leaders.

The internationally acclaimed Moscow State Puppets Theatre, which is named after Russian puppet master Sergei Obraztsov, will adapt Jonathan Swift's classic novel "Gulliver's Travels" into a splendid stage production called "Gulliver" this summer.
"Gulliver" is one of the programme highlights of the large-scale summer International Arts Carnival presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Cathay Pacific Airways 11 February held a ceremony at its headquarters’ complex to present graduates of the airline’s Cadet Pilot Programme with their “wings”, marking their official entry into the airline as Second Officers.
All the members of CP29 are Hong Kong ID card holders and come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some already had careers in the aviation industry – including helicopter pilot, flight instructor and Cathay Pacific flight attendant – while others had jobs ranging from financial planner to teacher.

Primary and secondary school students interested in joining the Student Drawing Competition of Hong Kong Flower Show 2010 are invited to enrol through their schools before February 12.
The competition, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), will be held on March 19 (Friday) from 9am to noon at Victoria Park.

Soaking up the South Pacific sun on a coral-fringed island, dropping anchor at a palm-edged beach, scuba diving, surfing reef breaks or dallying through tropical rainforests have all become directly accessible from Hong Kong as Air Pacific announced December 7 the launch of its new non-stop flights between Fiji and Hong Kong.
Fijian Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama officiated at the ceremony which was held at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to herald the new route. He was accompanied by several key Fijian dignitaries including Air Pacific Board Chairman Mr Nalin Patel, and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Air Pacific, Mr John Campbell.

The Home Affairs Bureau and four universities in Hong Kong, November 24 launched a new large-scale arts programme - "Budding Winter" to nurture budding artists and bring arts to the community.
Officiating at the opening ceremony, the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, said: "Our young people are the next generation of talented artists and audiences and we are making them the centre stage in 'Budding Winter'. We have engaged more than 180 artists in this project with a total of 90 art displays in Hong Kong Park, Kowloon Park, Sha Tin Park and Tuen Mun Park."

Internationally acclaimed master of painting Wu Guanzhong had offered Hong Kong another generous donation of 33 paintings, the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, announced November 13, adding that the donation would become a significant permanent collection of the Hong Kong Museum of Art.
To provide an opportunity for the community to appreciate Wu's work, the Museum of Art will hold an exhibition in March to showcase the latest donation along with its existing collection of Wu's works.

Yet there was a time when they were merely bit players in movies, serving as stuntmen or even extras, often faceless or nameless. They were once the members of the "Qi Xiao Fu" (Seven Little Fortunes), who underwent harsh and stern training from opera veteran Yu Zhanyuan at the master's Hong Kong-China Opera Institute.
